About The Art Museum Lobby

One Peking is located in the heart of the Tsim Sha Tsui business district. The lobby of One Peking has transformed into an art museum that emphasizes both elegance and taste. It builds a bridge of communication between art and the public, shortens the distance between each other, and perfectly demonstrates the cooperation between business and art perfect ecology.

"Breeze (そよ风)" - by Japanese national treasure-level stone carving artist Izumi Masatoshi, placed in the lobby of One Peking.

The brand introductions of the 7th- 11th restaurants are displayed on LED screens. The design concept is derived from the glass cabinets with noble jewelry, which brings freshness to customers and adds an artistic atmosphere to the lobby of One Peking.

Masatoshi Izumi has been associated with stone since he was a child. He has been with professional stone sculptors, watched their professional skills grow up, and embarked on the road of stone sculpting like his father. He has more than 60 years of experience and will pass it down from generation to generation. His stone carving crafts have been sublimated into works of art. At present, the works of the master can be seen in the Seattle Art Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art, and the National Palace Museum in Taipei.

Masatoshi Izumi expressed his hope to bring nature into the cold commercial building. "The world is constantly improving, but it is also regressing. Bad things are still happening, and guns are still being manufactured in many places. Artillery and war, it is necessary for human beings to gain real peace to feel more about nature. In the face of natural ecology, human beings become very small, especially stones that have existed between heaven and earth for billions of years, have faced earthquakes and lightning strikes Even natural disasters, still standing, I hope that those who see stone sculptures can feel the power of nature, and continue to move forward in the face of changes and challenges.”

In the Lobby of One Kowloon, a grade-A commercial building located in Kowloon Bay, there are also many stone sculptures of Izumi Masatoshi。

To hold such a weighty artwork, of course, it is also necessary to make appropriate cooperation on the site. One Peking invited the original architect of the building, Rocco Yim, an internationally renowned architect. He said that since the building was completed in 2003, the society has changed a lot in the past ten years. People's taste has improved and was changed, and the appreciation of culture and artwork has been pursued. The distance between commerce and art has gradually narrowed. Placing art installations in commercial buildings can not only improve the image of the building, but also inspire the public to pay more attention to art and accept."

Considering that if the environment of the commercial building is too noisy and noisy, the artistry of the artwork may be lost, so it has been carefully designed from the moment of entering the building, "Visitors entering One Peking,  a number of giant cylindrical metal columns of different thicknesses and tens of meters high are arranged along the wall. The design is a bit like a theater curtain, so that when visitors enter from the busy streets, they have the feeling of slowly opening the curtain. Be prepared for the art appreciation that comes down.”

Stepping into the lobby, you will be greeted by The Tiffany Blue Box Cafe, the world's top jewelry brand Tiffany & Co. Asia's first, with Tiffany Blue dreamy lake blue as the main tone, and the exterior decoration adopts the jewelry box concept. Rocco Yim thinks it is not only an art installation, but also represents another kind of humanistic spirit. "In the past, commercial buildings felt more solemn, but in recent years, they have focused on the human side. There is a place in the lobby to sit down, drink coffee and take pictures. It feels casual, not so formal."

Finally arrived at the lobby of the art museum, which is where the art work Masatoshi Izumi’s stone sculptures are located. Rocco Yim said that the decoration was deliberately simple. It is too eye-catching and distracts the guests, causing visitors to miss the appreciation of the artwork. Therefore, the entire lobby uses materials such as stone walls and glass, without too many fancy details, and it is also in harmony with The Tiffany Blue Box Cafe style, regardless of lighting and background. Considering everything carefully, striking a balance between commerce and art, and creating an environment where you can enjoy art quietly amidst the hustle and bustle of commerce, can be said to be a major challenge of this project.”

The Tiffany Blue Box Cafe, which attracts many pilgrims, is located in the lobby of One Peking. The exterior adopts the concept of a jewelry box, and it is also an art installation.
